History:
Prior to the U.S. entering WWII American pilots flew as Eagle Squadron for the RAF and were first in the air. They were mostly civilian pilots who joined the RAF, costing them their U.S. citizenship.
Eagle Squadron pilots joined the U.S. Army Air Force and were commissioned when America declared war against the Axis Powers, with U.S. citizenship restored. They formed the Fourth Fighter Group and would go on to amass one of the most impressive records among all United States fighter units in World War II, claiming to destroy 1,016 enemy aircraft.
